Working at Heights courses: don’t leave it too late!

A Bedford man has been hospitalised following a fall from a 20-foot ladder, in just one of many recent – and worrying – incidents involving falls from height.
The accident took place at a Bedford building site on Friday 4th April; while Accident and Emergency teams were quick to the scene, he suffered severe head injuries and his condition remains ‘critical’. The man is currently recovering in Addenbrooke’s Hospital.
Safe working at height is the employer’s responsibility
Although investigators are yet to report on the exact cause of the accident, it’s yet another reminder that accredited Health and Safety training is an absolute must for employees working at heights.
Ladder injuries are often extremely serious so it’s all the more important that proper training for working at heights has been undertaken before employees carry out this kind of activity.
As an employer, it’s your legal responsibility to ensure the health and safety of your staff by recognising potential hazards and minimising risks in the workplace.
And when it comes to safe ladder use, the only way for you and your employees to gain a full understanding of the issues at stake – and fulfil your legal Health and Safety obligations – is to attend reputable working at heights courses.
An accredited training course can protect you and your employees
Here at Browns Ladders, we provide a in house working at heights training course that will give you and your employees a thorough understanding of safe methods of height working.
This four-hour course can easily be scheduled into your working week, includes an overview of the relevant Health and Safety legislation in effect, and leads to a certificate that is valid for three years.
For businesses that require staff to work with ladders on a regular basis, our half-day ladders and steps course will instruct employees on the safe use of ladders and steps while providing a wealth of information on how to minimise potential hazards in the workplace.
It’s also worth pointing out that workplace accidents aren’t limited to ladders – there are risks involved with work at any height.
Browns Ladders integrate safe working training with all our training courses, like our comprehensive training on in-house mobile towers or our nationally accredited scaffold training course. We also offer safe working training on our day-long combined scaffold and low-level working course, perfect for businesses who require work to be carried out at a variety of heights.
