This is one of our non-accredited courses here at Browns Ladders. Instead, we’ve formulated this course in-house, with our own expert instructors, making it ideal for any operatives who use ladders and stepladders at work, or engage in work at height for short durations. It starts by providing candidates with a base of understanding regarding the safe use of ladders and stepladders, before going onto expand on the possible hazards, and which measures to take to deal with them safely and successfully.
Specifically, this course aims to equip candidates with the knowledge and skills to carry out a pre-use inspection on your ladder, and to recognise any dangerous or developing faults that might prevent safe use. The course is perfect for office staff, maintenance operatives, system fitters, electricians and installation workers.
You’ll be assessed using several formats. Firstly, instructors will deliver a lecture on the given topic – following this, you’ll be tested on the subject matter with a multiple choice exam. Then you’ll progress onto Practical Training, in which your instructor will take you through a full demonstration on the correct setup and use of the relevant equipment – after this, you’ll take a specific assessment on this topic too. This involves fault finding in ladders and steps, as well as the correct carrying and positioning of ladders and stepladders.
We recommend bringing protective footwear and suitable clothing for the practical session, to minimise the risk of injury. That means no converses or similar, and clothes shouldn’t be restrictive by limiting your range or speed of movement. Also, no bracelets or jewellery that might catch on anything. Finally, it’s wise to bear in mind weather conditions!
For our non-accredited Safe Use & Pre-Use Inspection Of Ladders & Steps Course previous experience is not mandatory, but it’s always helpful to have a working knowledge of ladders and steps to form the basis of your understanding. However, it is important for you to be physically fit and able enough to carry out practical activities during the course.
