ladders and steps training course

Ladder & Steps Awareness

This is one of our non-accredited courses here at Browns Ladders. Instead, we’ve formulated this course in-house, with our own expert instructors, making it ideal for any operatives who use ladders and stepladders at work, or engage in work at height for short durations. It starts by providing candidates with a base of understanding regarding the safe use of ladders and stepladders, before going onto expand on the possible hazards, and which measures to take to deal with them safely and successfully.

Specifically, this course aims to equip candidates with the knowledge and skills to carry out a pre-use inspection on your ladder, and to recognise any dangerous or developing faults that might prevent safe use. The course is perfect for office staff, maintenance operatives, system fitters, electricians and installation workers.

FAQ's

How will I be assessed?

You’ll be assessed using several formats. Firstly, instructors will deliver a lecture on the given topic – following this, you’ll be tested on the subject matter with a multiple choice exam. Then you’ll progress onto Practical Training, in which your instructor will take you through a full demonstration on the correct setup and use of the relevant equipment – after this, you’ll take a specific assessment on this topic too. This involves fault finding in ladders and steps, as well as the correct carrying and positioning of ladders and stepladders.

Should I bring anything with me to the course?

We recommend bringing protective footwear and suitable clothing for the practical session, to minimise the risk of injury. That means no converses or similar, and clothes shouldn’t be restrictive by limiting your range or speed of movement. Also, no bracelets or jewellery that might catch on anything. Finally, it’s wise to bear in mind weather conditions!

Do I need to have previous experience?

For our non-accredited Safe Use & Pre-Use Inspection Of Ladders & Steps Course previous experience is not mandatory, but it’s always helpful to have a working knowledge of ladders and steps to form the basis of your understanding. However, it is important for you to be physically fit and able enough to carry out practical activities during the course.

Will I get a certificate on completion of the course?

Yes. All successful candidates will get a certificate on completion of the course. The length of their validity depends on whether or not the course is accredited.

For the non-accredited Safe Use & Pre-Use Inspection Of Ladders & Steps Course:

You will receive a certificate of training which will last for three years.

How long does the course last?

This is a Half-Day course, which means it will last no longer than 4 hours. This gives you the option of pairing it with another of our Half-Day Courses, so you can get the maximum benefit of our expertise in a single working day.

Amongst the other available Half-Day courses are:

  • Abrasive Wheels
  • Manual Handling
  • Harnesses and Lanyards
  • Work at Heights

How many candidates can you train in a single session?

For our non-accredited course (Safe Use & Pre-Use Inspection of Ladders & Steps), we can take a maximum of 12 candidates in a single session.

Where is the course held?

There are several options, depending on which is most preferable to you: candidates can attend our approved training centre in Blackburn, Heywood & Brighouse, or we can carry out the training on-site at your premises. You can contact us to book your place on either by calling 01282 615517. Whatever the case, we can assure you that your operatives will receive the absolute highest standard of training.
